It's been a slow season with not a lot of gobbling this year, not even on the roost. This morning I was lucky enough to have a bird fire off on the roost and gobble a few times, he flew down towards me and stayed just where I couldn't see him skirting me and gobbling, I only called a few times too him and was keeping quiet while he was staying in the same place gobbling trying to make the hen come to him. He eventually started going away gobbling and I made a huge loop and tried to get in front of the direction he was going. I got set up, sat down and yelped twice, after I had been sitting for half an hour and hadn't heard him gobble since I moved, I thought for sure I had spoked him. But just as I was getting ready to move i saw a red head coming through the woods, I am lucky he didn't see me first. I shot him at 31 yards with a benelli sbe 2 truelock 650 and 3.5 inch federal heavyweight 7s. It was like a train hit him. Very blessed to have gotten to harvest him this morning. He had a 10.5 inch beard and one inch a quarter spur the other leg was smooth like nothing even tried to grow. Hadn't seen anything like it before.
