The Bedford Outdoor Sportsman Association held its annual Gene Parker Memorial 'Gunnin' for Gobblers' spring turkey hunt on Saturday April 22nd.
Seventeen physically challenged hunters from all around the state of Virginia participated. Despite rainy conditions hunters were able to harvest 3 birds, 2 longbeards and a jake. For two of the hunters it was their first spring turkey ever!
This hunt was started in 2006 and since then 20 different hunters have taken a turkey with eighteen of those hunters taking their first EVER spring turkey on this hunt. Over that time we have had seven veterans, including an Iraqi war vet that won the Silver Star for combat valor, take birds on this hunt. One of our prouder achievements is having guided two gentlemen that are blind to successful hunts in the past few years.
On behalf of BOSA I would like to thank all of the call makers on this site that help put a smile on these hunters faces with donated calls!

This hunter has MS and we've been trying for 5 years to get him a bird. At 11:44 Saturday morning it finally happened.

Oh...My highlight of the morning was this herd of cows!

Thanks for all you do for these guys! I'm sure everyone had the time of their lives even if they didn't get to harvest a bird. People like me tend to take it for granted that we can get outta bed and grumble every day as we walk to the bathroom and complain about going to work every day during turkey season. Makes me think!!!!

Glad you guys had a good hunt!    :icon_thumright:

I think sometimes it's forgotten what these brave men and women have done for the price of our freedom.
Congrats to all those that participated to help these true American heroes!
Well done, Barry, well done.......
