Me and a friend headed out this morning and man did the woods come alive.  There were 7-8 birds gobbling around us with 3 within 200 yards.  We set up on the closest bird and began working him.  He was gobbling good and got another bird working our way also.  When the other bird started getting closer the original bird started heading away.  Our attention now focused on the new bird that was closing fast.  Soon we could see him walking to our left and spotted him about 40 yards out.  He skirted around us and got out of sight.  I was able to get around to the back of the tree and call him back in.  The bird came right back and stayed just out of range.  After fading off again my friend was able to get around in case the bird come back a third time.  Well sure enough he came marching right back strutting and gobbling, finally when he hit an opening I called and my friend ended his morning.  Typical 2 years old

While high fives were happening we heard more birds gobbling a few hundred yards away so off we went to try for the double.  By the time we got to them they slowed down with their gobbling but still gobbled good enough to let us know where they were heading.  We were able to slip into a nice green bottom and set up.  They stayed quiet for about 15 minutes and when I let out a long yelp they both gobbled back about 100 yards out.  We both began to call and they really got fired up.  Soon I could see 2 longbeards coming straight to us.  After watching the show the strutter finally came into an opening and the little 20 guage went to work.  Bird never flopped after being hit with the Heavyweights at about 35 yards.

Been a quick season but now it's time to get my dad and friends on some birds.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
