While here hunting in GA, I started having an issue with my 11-87 after I shot a bird this morning. When I go to unload a live shell, the action will only slightly open and then it will hang. You have to be very forceful to get it to sling the shell on out. I disassembled and reassembled several times and it's still doing it. It doesn't do it without a shell in. Any help?

Scrub the chamber with fine steel wool and lightly oil. Worked for my 11-87 and 870. They had developed a little rust and it slowed down the action and made even low brass dove loads difficult to eject.

Busted o ring on the gas tube or the two pieces that go together behind the ring are not correct

That's a likely cause.

I'm lost on this. I reversed pieces on the gas ring and got it working. But I still don't know if it's right. Can't find a good picture online. I've seen reference to removing a piece if your not shooting 2 3/4 shells. I'm shooting 3.5" but not sure if I have a piece to remove or what. Used gun, no manual.

Google 11-87 gas system diagram and you should get what you need some models have a diagram on the magazine tube of the gun.

This should be helpful http://www.brownells.com/GunTech/Remington-11-87-1100-Barrel-Seal-Piston-Piston-Seal-Assembly/detail.htm?lid=11149

Remington web site will have a manual, you can download, 3.5" shells, are you sure you have a 11-87 Super Mag, the basic 11-87 is a 3" gun. Used gun, possible someone put a 3.5" barrel on a 3" receiver, I've seen worse things done.
