I'm not from there, but have be 6 or so times at various times of the season, never later than 5/15. Hadn't been on a bad trip yet.

I've hunted with Mark in the past. Lots of birds, clean accommodations and good food. I would shoot for late April, early May timeframe.

I'd be surprised if he has any openings left this late.

You won't be hunting rios. Easterns or best case a hybrid. Most likely hybrid. Need to get west of a Wichita to Salina to Belleville line for true rios.

Good point..yes they will be Eastern or a hybrid

Those Kansas Hybrids can be some pretty birds. Fun birds to hunt.  Gobble with the sound of an Eastern with the frequency of a Rio.

I hunted with Hickory Creek Outfitter out of McCune KS when they were associated with Deep South Outfitters. The Bennett family do a great job. Lots of birds, clean accommodations, good food.

Hickory Creek Outfitters (Hunt Hickory Creek)  has been around 20 years, so they must do a pretty fair job also.

You can still get a bird in late May, but I can tell you they start acting a lot more disinterested in May. They aren't fighting much at all so I wouldn't use a jake decoy. Still plenty of gobbling, just gotta be patient and call less but you can kill them.

I hunted with Hickory Creek Outfitters last spring in Howard, Kansas. Very good group of guys and had 2 birds down by noon on the first day. My buddy also killed got his 2 bird limit. Ended up with a mix bag of hybrid/Rios, but an awesome experience. Lots of birds, lots of gobbling! Not sure how late season will be since we went during the first week.
