I have a mossberg 500 I'm wanting to put a red dot on right after turkey season, and I was wondering if a 28 inch barrel would in anyway interfere with my picture through the site. I'm sure it doesn't, I just want to be sure...

Also, any other need to know info??

TRKYHTR

I checked out the Burris holosite when I was in MS and I will have one on my gun next year.

I'm not exactly sure what you think would block the site, but I have the exact same mossberg 500 gun with a drilled and tapped red dot scope and it's deadly.  I love it.  Have the same barrel length too so I say go for it.

It has dropped many a bird for me.

I HAVE THE MOSS 835 AND A TRUGLO GOBBLE STOPPER CSCOPE.. NOW I CAN SEE JUST ALITTLE BIT OF MY BARREL ON THE BOTTOM OF SCOPE BUT NOTHING INTERFERES WITH THE RED DOT OR MY SIGHT OF VIEW.. THEY ARE DEADLY AND I WOULD RECOMEND ONE FOR YOUR TURKEY GUN
Take a kid hunting

Timmer

I have a Benelli with a 28" barrel and a Bushnell red dot and it works great.

I don't think you will run into any problem with that set up.   :you_rock:

Know what to expect.  It is zero magnification, just looking through a window.  You will be able to see the barrel but it will not interfere with shooting.  The dot will be high enough above the barrel to permit a good sight picture and the barrel will not block your view of the target.

Which sight are you looking at getting?  Do you want a sight like the Mueller Quick Shot and Burris FF II, or are you looking at a tube sight?  What will be you cost limitations?

new2turkey

I wasn't looking at anything in particular, but I'd put my cost limit at $100-150 dollars.

This won't be mounted until after turkey season

Sounds like it.... Again I'm getting solid patterns with the HS I just tried, but my patterns are too far to the left. Also my barrel sits right around 30 inches w/ my choke.

So, what you need to do is every chance you get, drive to the Cabela's that you a lucky enough to have 20 mins away and look at every red dot they have.  Do it over and over and you will get a feel for what you like.  Remember the tube style sights all have less FOV (field of view) than the open sights.  If you can swing it, get it now with how far off you are shooting, it is much nicer to hit where you aim than have to remember to adjust your aiming to hit where you want it to.

Thanks for the advice Ray, I think I'll go up tomoro.
