Have shot both and can't say as I have a preference. After having a dot scope for many years I don't think I will go with anything else. Considered a regular scope but don't like the consequences of improper eye positioning with 3.5" turkey loads.

I know the feeling with a regular scope, hunted with one for 1 season.

shoot a 20 gauge and you want have to worry about the scope hitting you. shoots just as good as any 12 gauge..
wish that were the case. Daughter and I took her 870 youth out last year to pattern. We shot a lot of light field loads to get it close. I then stuffed a 3 inch turkey load in for me to shoot. Well I got that light lil gun nice and tucked, let it rip and that Bushnell 1x dot/T  cracked me right between the eyes. I then feel the trickle of blood. We had walked thru a bunch of prickers to get to shooting spot. Daughter saw blood and I had to lie and say pricker got me. Don't want her getting gun shy from my stupidity.
