I was cleaning up spurs from this season to add to the collection and have another one for the miscellanious bowl of what I call "conversation pieces" as it's full of different things I have come across over the years in the woods.

When I cleaned the first one years ago I thought "Now isn't that rare" and thought I'll never see that again.  Here we are 20+ years later and.....

The Eastern killed in MO had a large BB or #2 shot in it's leg and you can see by the picture it was clearly broken and healed back over (He was also one weary old gobbler).
One of the spurs I cleaned up today was from a Merriams from Northwest Nebraska and I know it was my slingshot kill as it had 1.25" spurs and were the best of the Merriams I killed.
How odd is it that 20+ years later I kill another bird with a large BB embedded in it's leg bone right by the spur.
I would say there are some shots being taken a bit further than they should be from some guys using larger than normal sized shot as well.

When I turkey hunt I use a DSD decoy

Kinda like lightning striking the same place twice.

Good post , I've shot a nice gobbler with a #4 in the leg , and pintail drake with a BB hole blown through the bill and healed back up

A place I used to duck hunt would have a whole flock of bluebills stuck (flightless) on a permeter canal , pellets broke the wings and all they can do is swim and dive - , I would go in and sneak up and put em' down

very interesting find.

I took a guy out earlier this year.  I was unaware he had never turkey hunted before.  He showed up with with an IC choke and 3.5 inch waterfowl loads in BB.

'That's what I use for geese and turkeys are bigger than geese' was his thought.

He used a spare gun and shells I had in the truck...

If I had saved all the money I spent on hunting, I'd spend it on hunting.

Seen old pellets in the legs several times, but not that perfectly placed.  I see more wing injuries than anything.
If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

Thats right, I prefer head/neck shots with smaller shot.  Good post.
