Just returned from a Gould's trip with four hunters.  A diversity in experience, age, and expectations.  We all returned with nothing but positive opinions.  The rancher is very small scale and does not use a booking agent, advertise, or understand marketing and advertising.  I would be happy to provide you with a phone number and name for the rancher if a Gould's is at your quest.  Pick up, transportation, food, cleaning of birds, etc. will cost each hunter about $2600 for two birds.  From eating local food, touring the area, hiking in the mountains, and truly hunting Gould's we all left completely satisfied.  I told the rancher I would try to help him as much as possible.  Feel free to pm me for the name and number of the rancher.  May 3 - May 8 are taken for next year...it was so good I am going back.  The hunt consist of pick up day, four days of hunting, and a return travel day to El Paso.  Be careful booking these types of trips...lots of middle men/booking agents along the way I learned.  I did not fear my safety at any point of the trip.  I also think if you want a rustic, self paced, true Gould's hunt that you could not go wrong with this rancher.

Sounds like a great time.  Gould's are definitely on my bucket list someday.  Have any pics of the trip?

Would love to see some pics! Question, being with a smaller outfitter/ranch, do you believe they're doing good sustaining their population, and did you feel safe for the most part? Gould trip will happen for me in the next ten years....just don't know when LOL

Hunting in Mexico is done under a pretty strict system where game populations are surveyed by their wildlife department and tags (cintillos) are issued for each property (UMA) based on those surveys.  Property owners do not determine the number of animals that can be harvested.  They are supposed to harvest only the number of animals authorized by the wildlife biologists.

Population was great.
Safety never an issue...not knowing Spanish is not a positive part of the experience when in town.
The country is humbling...the terrain is very demanding.
