Almost over and I've yet to come close

Well, the subject heading pretty much sums it up. I've gotten to hunt 3 days this season and it's almost over for me already. Totally not how I saw this year playing out but life happens. Got out last Thursday and Friday with a very good friend of mine and the birds kicked our butts. Saturday it poured the rain down and we didn't make it out. I'll get out this Saturday for a bit but I think that's going to be about it. Might get out on May 9th for a small shot in the morning but then I'm pretty much wrapped up. Started a business last summer and it's picking up right now and taking my weekend time. Church on Sunday's and time with the wife and girls pretty much shoots that time frame as well. Hope it all comes together real soon but everyone here still says they're henned up heavily. Only up side is that my friend did manage to get a bird this morning on the ridge we hunted last week so congrats to him. I'm sure he'll show the pics later today. Real happen for everyone that's already scored a bird, just taking a minute to whine and complain. I'm done now. Going to find a tissue to wipe away my tears in a moment.

hope your next hunt ends in a bang.. I know its tough when life gets busy and a season passes you by

I had 2 weeks off and plans to hunt 5 states this year then right before spring I got an opportunity to change jobs but it ment not being able to go on those trips and being relegated back to weekend warrior status. It stunk but it was a better career move.

If it doesn't happen Saturday AM, go to church on Sunday and see if you can hit the woods for a couple hours mid day to look for those lonesome gobblers out trolling around for a new lady friend.  Church in the AM - a bit of GOD (Great Out Doors) after that, then all afternoon with the wife and kids.

You can have it all.

Good luck with the rest of your season.

I hope you get one on your next hunt. Our season closes may first and I had to have surgery yesterday and I'm doubting I will make it back out. Plus weather is showing thunderstorms for Saturday and Sunday. Which stinks I've killed 2 gobblers this season and only like one more to limit out. I've killed 2 birds several years but the 3rd one has  always eluded me from limiting out. Looks like this year will be the same lol

WV hunting ends at noon so that's unfortunately not going to happen. Would be nice though.

Also, just checked the weather report. Almost wish I hadn't. Calling for large quantities of rain clear through the weekend now. Wonderful! Next year I guess. Gotta make it happen next year.

Rain could work to your advantage. Got fields on the property?

I'm headin back up to WV to hunt with my brother and another good buddy so we are gonna try and hit the fields if it's raining.

Why not hunt in the rain?  Not the most fun time, but if it's all you have, go for it.

I feel your pain. Every season I have grand plans, and things come up and hunts fall through. This year I got drawn for 2 excellent hunts in Florida. I was excited, and sure I would tag out with 2 Osceolas. But between bad weather, bad hatches, Walking Wally's, poachers and a missed shot, I ended up with no Osceolas after 9 days of hunting. My trips to NC, Georgia and Bama all fell through. The only bright side to my season was tagging out in SC at my lease with 3 nice gobblers.
Hang in there man, it ain't over til it's over!! Get back out there!!! :icon_thumright:

know it all to well. I went from a job where I could hunt every morning of the season to weekends only. good luck this weekend Saturday might be the day temps look cool but should be rain free in the am.

I don't mind hunting in the rain. I just don't want to be hunting in a deluge and that's what it looks like will be the case.

Fields and pipelines when its raining are killer. Hope you find some more time this season but if not, I hope you have better luck next season.

Even if you don't get a chance at a bird at least you were able to be in the woods to some degree. Hopefully the stars will align and allow you to get one. Good luck and keep working at it!

How far do you have to travel to hunt?  If it's not far then you can easily get a quick hunt in before church. I hunt almost every morning of season until 6:30-6:45 am. Sure it's not much time but when things click just right you don't need much time.
