Length of a gobblers neck?

What is the length of a gobblers neck from the major caruncles (some may call them wattles) to the top of his head when he is standing straight up?

Happy

My rough guess would be about 6 inches.

Not sure but it gets longer once I hang him from it and try to strip the meat from his body.

Long enough to poke his head up and bust you

From my experience, 6-7" depending on the body size of the thunder chicken.

True that!

I was thinking about 8in. Was curious b/c my poi is a touch high but not enough to where if I am holding where the wattles/caruncles meet the feathers he won't get rolled.

Here is where those turkey head targets come into play...

Get some target loads, put that target out to 30 yards, and put some regular target loads on that paper and see where your hold point needs to be.  I shoot Hevi-shot, and it shoot to the same spot as cheap target loads, and the target loads are cheaper and kick a lot less.

Many wing-shooting guns shoot 70/30 or 60/40 (i.e. 60% of the pattern above the hold point and 30% below), but with adjustable shims, I try to make my guns shoot 50/50 if I can.  For most of my shotguns, the hold-point is generally just a bit higher than where the neck meets feathers...
Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

Good idea.
My gun is sighted in with hevi 13 and dead on with the poa. Been shooting some longbeards and they are a touch high. Once I am out of the hevi I am switching to the longbeard and will most likely re sight then. On the may 1 opener I will have a hevi in the chamber and longbeards in the tube.

Most male turkeys necks are right at 12" from where they connect at the body to their earholes. The actual distance from the wattles to the top of the head changes due to their ability to draw the wattles up and down but the neck length stays the same. When a Tom is relaxed and standing the measurement your referring to is usually around 7 inches depending on the subspecies.
