This is the time of year most states hunter ed classes start up. I'll be mainly referring to states touching NJ in this post.
I had a few months back applied to be an instructor in NY state, I didn't finish the training since it was impossible w my schedule. Classes at night, multiple days, etc. and my understanding from a students point of view very few classes.
I only say this as NY n I think Pa allow kids to hunt at 12. In Jersey its 10. We do an international course same as most places n it's honored everywhere.
Classes saying full still welcome walk ins.
You need to get a workbook n fill it out completely or do an online thing which I believe is 25 bucks, print out the waver n come to class. You can skip the field section if you choose this method.
All classes are completed in one day, usually by 1 with an 8 o'clock start even when doing multiple disciplines.
If archery is one you must have a bow drawing at least 35 pounds or a crossbow at 75, 5 matched n correct for the bow arrows n you need to shoot 3 out of 5 in a deers vitals. And the equipment is checked that's it's safe to shoot. So don't bring bows that need strings, cracked limbs, missing eclips, etc. firearms are supplied
Being it can be done in a day and walk ins allowed it may fit more bordering states prospective hunters and the license for youths is free.
We have classes coming up this weekend n next so if you have a youth you can get it done before youth day. If you're in a state that says 12 to hunt ther can start two years early.
