Saw my first "smokey baby" this spring after 25 yrs. of turkey hunting. If the site were easy to post pics I would post it.
When I turkey hunt I use a DSD decoy

I'm not saying it won't work but defiantly gotta wait till regular hunters use and review. I like the Drury guys but not buying any product just because a celeb says it works....or anyone else being paid to say that.

Why not take a white pillow case and cover a decoy with and leave the head sticking out and you can call it pillow baby.
You could paint you a little brown and black on the pillow case and your ready either way pillow case on or pillow case off...Pillow Baby decoy...save you lot of money...

Lol. Then when it's not hunting season you can let the kids mix them in with their pillow pets. A duel purpose win win lol.

Guess I should have known better...I went through this whole thing with Funky Chicken, that, by the way works VERY well. There were all sorts of experts and old schoolers who just about had a fit! Everybody, save a few with open minds, was negative without any experience with him.
All I was asking was have you tried smokey baby. The idea isn't that the turkeys can see it better, since they have eyes that can see fleas kissing at 100 yds., but that an odd or out of the ordinary hen is a curiosity.
I have seen one gray phase hen and a friend shot another in fall season. So they do exist.
So, if anybody has tried one, I'd be interested to know what you thought...

An interesting side note...I read about a guy who wondered how his old neighbor was so successful. After getting to know him he was invited to go along. The old guy had a soccer ball that was painted orange...Seems as though that was his "secret weapon."
I have no idea if the story was true or not but it does open some interesting speculation...

I heard if you order now you can get a Dead Silence turkey locator whistle and The Egg push button yelper to round out your bag of tricks. With this combo there will be no need for 66 yd shots.

I'm sure both funky chicken and smoky hen will bring in some toms just not in my vest thats just me though

OldSchool

To say I'm behind the times is an understatement. I haven't been using a computer very long and when I need a box of shells or a call, whatever, I generally go straight to what I need in the store without really looking at much else. Joining this great site has been a real eye opener for me, I can't believe the amount of turkey hunting products that are out there these days.

I'm not knocking any of it and I'm sure a lot of these things are the cat's arse, but it sure makes me wonder how I got by all these years with my woodland camo fatigues, my old shotgun, lead shot and a couple different calls. I guess I've been missing out.

Call 'em close, It's the most fun you'll ever have doing the right thing.

Happy

You have missed some good and a lot of bad in my humble opinion.  I love this site and being able to communicate with people who are as passionate about turkeys as I am. Do love eyeballing the custom calls and talking with people who have been at this game longer than I tho. I am a youngster compared to many on here and there is a lot of experience on here. This is the only site I am on and it is the best in my opinion. So thanks OG crew!

I know this is an attempt at humor...I tried Dead Silence and, as we all know, it was less than advertised. Didn't try the Egg...I did try Funky Chicken and he worked exceptionally well. I will try something that I think may have value if I can reason a way that it would excite a natural instinct. I've raised turkeys and chickens and I know that unnatural variations or injuries will elicit an aggressive response from other flock members. If I had never tried some of the things/products I've tried, I wouldn't have been nearly as successful as I've been. Maybe the Smoky Baby is a way to pry money out of my pocket. Maybe not...Skeptics insisted the world wasn't round and that people couldn't fly. AND, you were considered an incompetent if you thought space travel was possible...So, as I said before, I wasn't looking for ridicule. I was looking for someone with direct experience with this decoy. If you have it, I'm all ears. If you don't, I'd appreciate Dead Silence...  :thanks:

SKFOOTER

I'll tell you this much.  I've had several gobblers and a slew of hens on game camera daily for the past month and a half.  I had my first gray phase hen on camera this past Friday morning.  She had to just be passing thru as I have 4 different cameras out.  Since then I have not had a single turkey on camera or heard a single gobble at dawn.  I'm wondering if she caught their eye and they all followed her off to parts unknown.  Just in case, I'm gonna buy a Smoky Baby today for $29 so I'll have it in my arsenal of decoys.  You never know.

Them dury fools digging into your pocket with gimmicks. I am sure a bird or two can be killed with it cause some birds just want to die.
