If you weren't happy with #7 performance on live birds, then shouldn't you ignore every #7 hole in the paper when evaluating your pattern?

No, because it had more to do with the density of the pattern at close distances.

The blends don't make any sense to me.  If the concept is that the smaller shot size is supposed to fill in the pattern at longer ranges, why not use all #7's.  The max range you should shoot at would be the range you think #7's are effective at.  What purpose is there to have larger shot mixed in?

I don't know about anyone else, but straight #7 are not legal in Maine, but the 5, 6, and 7 are legal, so I use the Mag blends to get a denser pattern.  They work great for me out of my Browning with a .665 IC.
I love golf.  It keeps a lot of people out of the turkey woods.

I shoo the blends out of my 870 with IC .660.  Patterns great for me as well.

Kills em extra dead instead of just regular dead

So I decided to give Rob Roberts Gun Works a call about the loads. They told me from their experience, the 4,5,7s did not pattern near as well as the 5,6,7s. That was good enough for me. The store worked with me and I made the switch yesterday afternoon.

They should be fine. I have shot them in my gun and the kids youth 20 for the past two years and they have killed turkeys just fine.
Only problem I have noticed us those #7 shots are harder to find in the breast and I have found more than a couple with my teeth.  I'm switching back to Longbeards #5 for that reason andc that reason only.
You haven't shot the Mag Blends 4,5,7 load for the last 2 years because they are new this year.  And rumor has it that Environmetal had a stockpile of HeviShot #4's so they decided this would be a way to reduce that inventory.  It stands to reason that they will not pattern as well as the 5,6,7 loads due to having 4's instead of 5's, thus having less pellets.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Mag Blend 4,5,7?

I went to the store yesterday, asked for 5,6,7 and the guy gave me 4,5,7. I was a dummy and didn't pay much attention to the box. Didn't notice until I got home. Just trying to decided to try an exchange of just shoot them.

I changed chokes this year, just got a Rob Roberts .655 for my SBE11. I talked to Rob about the 5,6,7 and was going to give them a whirl. I don't have any experience with either loads, have always shot Winchester. I just know for the money, I want to make the best decision I can. Thanks for any advice.

Sorry, I just saw this post about the "new" Magnum Blend shells. I published and article about them on April 10, 2015.

Here's a link http://allaboutshooting.com/blogs/blog/98747527-new-magnum-blend-shotshels-from-hevi-shot

I hope that helps some.

Thanks,
Clark
