Sxp turkey

Hey all, I picked up an sxp turkey in 12 gauge, 3 1/2". I've been looking at the carlsons longbeard choke (.665) do any of you have experience with this gun or gun and choke combo? I'll most likely be  shooting the longbeard xr 3 1/2 through it. Also, will I be ok polishing the barrel on this gun? I think it has a chrome lined barrel and I don't want to mess that up. Thanks in advance from a new turkey hunter.

Congratulations. Your gun has an Iinvector+ bore, so it's much like the SX3 or BPS Invector+ barrels in bore size. I have shot the Carlson's Long Beard chokes in both the "Crio" and Invector choke versions with 3" WLB shells with both 1 3/4 oz and 1 7/8 oz of shot in all 3 shot sizes. They did a good job. I have not shot that choke tube in the Invector+ version however, so I can not give you first hand experience. I have shot a number of other chokes through the Invector+ bores and many do an excellent job of patterning both with WLB shells and Hevi-13 shells.

Since your SXP has a chrome-lined bore, you will not want to polish it but I would encourage you to "deep clean" it. One hazard of chrome-line bores is that they can look very clean when in fact they are not. Deep cleaning is one of the best things that you can do to maximize the potential of your gun. http://allaboutshooting.com/article_info.php?articles_id=282 It takes a little time and energy but it's worth the effort.

Thanks a lot Clark. I will deep clean it for sure. The gun came with a turkey choke, but it's .700 and from what I've been reading on here, no one uses a choke that big, which is why I asked mainly. I couldn't find in the thread about polishing whether I should deep clean or polish, so thank you. I'm going to be going out to pattern as soon as I get the choke and wanted to make sure I could get the best pattern possible.

Not to state the obvious, and I don't know what state you're from, but definitely wait until it gets warmer before u pattern.  It will affect your numbers .

I'm from South Carolina. I will probably wait until late February/early march. Should be in the 50's or higher pretty regularly by then. Season opens march 20 on private and April 1 on public.
