hey fellows been a member for a while but this is my first post I mostly browse the forum and find the answers to my questions.. im impressed with what all I have read up on the fed hvywt 7s and have decided to make that my go to load... I sold a few firearms and upgraded to a sbe II 26" bbl in APG camo recently; now to find a choke... just looking for input from folks that have experience with the sbe II's and that load and what choke recommendations? I have looked at the final strut, trulock #7 chokes ect just trying to see which choke and constrictions are throwing the best patterns with these shells in yall's experiences.. not planning on doing any mods to the barrel anytime soon unless absolutely necessary i.e. forcing cone lengthened ,ect.. any info is greatly appreciated!

Congratulations on your first post. I've been shooting those shells for many years and tried a number of different chokes with them. I shoot a Vinci that has the same barrel i.d. as the SBEII, along with several other Benelli shotguns. An excellent choice is the .650 JEB's turkey choke. It does exceptionally well with the #7s as well as the 3rd Degree shells that also use the Flitecontrol Wad.

I hope that helps.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks Clark that's great to hear!.. I have been impressed with the patterns you have put up with that choke and the mag blends.. I just had assumed with it being ported it would be out of the question with the flite control wad.

my beretta al391 has a jebs 660 and puts up a very even 125 with the 3rd degree shells

They are not a numbers shell.

You can get a non-ported JEBS. I use one in M2 20ga with the HWT 7s.

You're welcome. Right after I shot the "new" Magnum Blend shells featured in this article http://allaboutshooting.com/article_info.php?articles_id=762 I shot several 3rd Degree shells through the Vinci with the .650 JEB's turkey choke and was pleased to see they had the same POI as the MB shells. That gave me at least 2 options to use. It was the standard ported model but as has been stated, JEB's chokes are available in a non-ported version. My readers have purchased both and have good results with both of them.

Thanks,
Clark

thank you all for the helpful responses.. I have been interested in the jebs chokes for a while and now that I see its compatible with the FCW i will more than likely go that route.

Are you using the ported Jebs with his shell?

I would try the Trulock and if your not happy with it send it back for your refund!

I would call Rob Roberts at Gobbler Guns.
He does the Custom shop work on the Benelli
Guns. He will be able to tell u which constriction
Is working best with the Fed HVYWT 7's.
He set min up with a .640 Final strut.
It put up 170's in 10" and a nice 20" halo with
The "Original" batches of 7's. After a couple years
They changed the shotshell recipe and my gun dropped
Off by 25+ hits in 10".
I started loading at that point.
I think now he is using a .650.
Call Gobbler Guns first

JEBS has a money back guarantee as well.

K9Doc did you have rob pattern test or do any mods to the barrel? or was that pattern from stock barrel and choke?

PALongspur

I'm shooting Rob's .650 in my 26" SBEII.

I agree the "older" lots of HW shells put up better numbers but I'm still getting around 135-145 with the newer shells. I also did some shooting with the 3rd Degree shells this year. Didn't count numbers but the pattern was great, definitely wouldn't hesitate to use them.

As a side note, this same choke does 190s with Longbeard XR 5s in my gun.

K9Doc

I tried the LB's in 6's and used a IC .665
In my SBE2 and was BLOWN AWAY!!!
Put 274 in 10" at 40 yds.
They were still Lead 6's tho
