Hoosier bird down!

I know it's a little late but I tagged this guy on opening week! We setup on a ridge top, where every year birds typically roost to the south. It's a big cedar thicket and normally you can always hear a midday bird up there but there's no way to get to them as they have such a vantage point on you being on top.

Friday morning me and the ol' man take the mile trip back to the blind. As were walking in one of the neighbors dogs starts barking like mad and I was already a little hot from the dumb thing. As we get to the blind we take out our decoy sets. Mine to the right at 22 yards. His left at 30. What happened next about gave me a heart attack!

(Who cooks for you, who cooks for all) BOOM a bird fires off at 75 yards right at the break from the ridge top. We scramble to the blind. A few soft clucks and a fly down he was on the ground at about 6:50. We sit there waiting as we hear him out front but elevation blocked us. Finally we catch his tail in full strut. We sat there and waited and waited as he went back and forth no longer than 10 yards struttin' and gobblin' the whole time. Now mind you this goes on for about 2 hours.

When the bird started to walk to the front side, out of view I hit him with a heavy cutting episode and before I knew it we say him at 50 yards. Full strut he finally was able to see the decoys and he walked all the way in never coming out of strut. My ol man was watching him through the glasses and said kill that bird. He took 5 steps away from the decoys and the hevi-shot nailed him.

We believe him to be 3 year old. 23.5 lbs. 1.2" Spurs and a 10 3/4 beard. Unbelievable experience to spend with the man who taught me everything I know. (Last year I videod him killing a nice 2 year old.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
