Best Place for Daughter to Hunt an Eastern?

My 13 year old daughter has made it her goal to try and get a Royal Slam prior to turning 18. I of course support this 100% and will do everything I can to make it happen for her or at least give her the opportunity to make it happen.

She killed her first (a Merriam's) last year.

After I signed my Arizona Gould's tag over to her she took her Gould's this year.

We have a hunt in Texas booked for her Rio next spring but I'm at a loss for where to start for her Eastern. Even though I'm new to the site I can already see the wealth of knowledge and experience so I figured I'd ask for recommendations from you all. I am not opposed to paying for a good guided hunt (will be our first one in Texas next year) but I want to make sure its with a good reputable outfitter. I'm also looking into some distant relatives in MO that might have some land we could hunt but haven't heard back from them yet.

I will be looking for the same information for her Osceola as well if anyone would like to share that.

I'm your typical working man so don't have a lot of money to spend but I am willing to scrimp and save to make this happen for her.

Thank you in advance and any and all ideas or information is welcome.

Thanks,
Phil Cramer

There are some public land Easterns in Texas and she could try for one here instead of buying a couple of more out of state license.
Eastern pickings can be slim in TX, they've actually closed a couple of dozen counties to Eastern hunting in E. Texas because of population declines.
If I wanted to do a public land Eastern, I would try MO first and then TN.  For an outfitter, well there are tons.  Pick you state and check references.
Congrats to the young lady on her bird and I hope she achieves her goal! :icon_thumright:
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

Thanks for your response and I'll look into Texas a little more but had been told that the Eastern numbers were way down and they were probably going to close a few more counties next year because of it. The good thing about Texas is the youth nonresident licenses are incredibly cheap (like $6!).

I'll keep researching and see what we can come up with.

My wife and I did our honeymoon at a whitetail outfitter 2 years ago in Missouri at a place called Hickory Hill Hunts.  They do Eastern turkey hunts too and really pride themselves on turkey hunting.  PM me if you want any more info on them, but I can tell you it will be my goal to go back there some time soon because they treat you so well it's unreal.

Congrats to the young lady.  Good advice from the previous posters.  Missouri and Arkansas both have good public land hunting.  If you want more info on the AR land just pm and I'll share what I know with you. Best of luck to her on her journey to a Royal.

I got my osceola with Jeff Budz in Okeechobee. I would recommend checking him out. Google tag it worldwide
