Hey everyone,

So long story short I am at the end of the season here in Va.  Saturday is my last day to fill a tag.  I hunt on base, as I don't know anyone local with property. The base has a few hundred acres divided up into hunting compartments that you check out at the game station on base.

I have a few where I know there are toms, for the last 2 weeks I have not heard a single gobble. I did see a tom and a hen walking down a power line, I would make some yelps, and they would both look my way and then keep on grazing on bugs, threw a couple gobbles and the tom would look my way for 3 seconds then go back to eating.  I stalked as close as I could (70 yards) but couldn't get it done.

The week before I had one come out of the bushes about 60 yards away. This was the last gobble I heard, I called him from probably 300 yards out, he came to an open a little out of my range I couldn't bring myself to take the shot. (did not want to risk injuring the bird).  Any way, he had two hens and would not come any closer to my location.  One of his hens busted me and took off clucking and he fallowed.

Any way, that is a sum of what my first Turkey season has brought me.  I learned to Scout, I learned how to roost (although on base they don't gobble much from the roost in the evening, or at least seem not too) I learned how to do some basic calling with yelps, purrs and cutting it up and mixing yelps in.  I have drawn one out of the woods (never felt my heart beat so hard, it was incredible)

Any way, season seems to be about done here.  What are yalls suggestions for a one last outing this weekend. How would you handle it? Also, I work evening shifts so I cant run around base while the sun is setting to do some roosting.

Also, 3 toms have been taken so far on base.  The wildlife manager for the base said 5-6 Toms is typical every year, and I have seen more than that together at one time during the fall of last year. So I know some are still out here, definitely the one sitting back in the area I know about, I believe he is the same one I seen on back to back weekends.

I would take a single hen decoy and setup in a field that the birds like to use...try to setup were the field will have the most shade ...call but don't over call just yelps and do a excited call...about ever 30 min..

I will give that a try, I got a spot I know they frequent but I cant tell what time they go. Im guessing later in the day, trying to figure out where they are before that in the morning but no luck so far.
