This is my third year of turkey hunting on the family farm where I live. There are a few bids around and they don't roost on our land very often as they roost across the road or over the creek on both sides. I typically set up in a blind and set decoys because these local birds usually will come over and feed on a piece that is cleared for farming. I killed my first bird last year over this same piece I'm hunting this year. I have seen many birds but have not had any luck getting the toms into my decoys. I decided to put out just the jake and see if any curious birds would check him out, but this past Saturday while I was in the blind checking out a hawk that was on the ground approaching the decoy as if to see if it was a meal for him, I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of something that went right by the blind up close. Not being sure what it was, I had to look around out of another opening in the blind when I saw a coyote walking right up to my jake decoy. I wasted no time getting the the gun up on target and giving that beast a fat load of #5 heavy shot. He went down and tried to get back up and I finished him off with another shot. That is one stinking nasty critter that won't be bothering my turkeys any longer. I think there's still another around the farm as I saw some fresh scat the next day after my kill. Still looking for my first bird this season.

Two loads of shot makes him a good yote.
