Finally turning around in Tn.

I had the worst opening week ever in memory this year. Hunted 5 times and heard 1 bird gobble 1 time all week! Never experienced that before. Well things took a turn for the better Sat. morning, heard multiple birds and killed one at 7:30. Sunday morning was much the same with plenty of gobbling from the roost. Eased into position on a ridge and got set up. After fly down he was on his way in. He hung up behind some brush while drumming and strutting back and forth for 15 minutes. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why he wouldn't come on in. He finally eased on off away from me down the ridge where I heard a few hens. When he did I got up and eased on over where he'd been. I'd never hunted this spot before and figured out why he hung up...dang old rusty hog wire fence. Had a few hours yesterday in the mid day so I eased out behind on house. Climbed to the top of the ridge where I either had to turn left or right. Broke out the pot and floated a series of yelps...nothing. Turned right and proceeded  down a old logging road. I had made it about a hundred yards when I though I heard a very faint gobble. I stopped and sure enough he gobbled again way off from the direction I had just come. I hurried back to the spot I had called from and slid up next to a big black walnut. I hit the glass again and he cut me off from probably about 250 yds. I waited for about 5 minutes then gave him a purr and 2 clucks. He gobble again at about 100. I laid the call down and got ready. After a few minutes I could hear him drumming and finally caught sight of him. Took him a few minutes to ease on in, but he gave me a great show. I ended it at 1:52 at 27 yds. What a difference a week makes!

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Genesis 27:3 - Now then, get your weapons—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

I hear you! Weather sure hasn't helped much. When you look at the forecast and it shows rain everyday it's a little depressing.

Glad it's picking up for ya. Congrats.
