I'm sitting on quite a few cabelas points and after watching some videos posted here recently and finding others on youtube I am interested in getting a gopro camera.

For those of you that have and use them:

What model do you have?

What accessories do you use?

Are you overall pleased with what you can capture with them?

What helpful tips do you have for setting it up in the field, etc?

Thanks

I have the hero 3 and I love it I download the app on my phone and use it as a remote and u can watch everything right on ur phone and make sure it's looking where it needs to be

I have a hero 3 black. It has captured some great action but have had some issues too. I have 5 friends hunting with them too. Here are some issues we have had.

-I've had the camera stop recording.  Usually the file is corrupted and won't play. This usually happens when I have numerous files on the micro sd card.
-One guys wi-fi keeps dropping.
-One guy isn't happy with his distance the remote works.
-One guy uses the remote provided and has no problems.

Some times I think the problem might be from connecting to a different device like smart phone or tablet.

The video quality is amazing.  I bought a small 3 legged tripod that I setup close to my decoys. I'll mix up the angle depending what I want to capture. If I hunt with a friend we'll add a 3rd angle. I also have sportsman mount that I will use while fishing. They are a lot of fun. I enjoy it but it can be frustrating when it doesn't work.

I borrowed one of the older ones for a few hunts a few years ago. While it does have really good video quality, there was no zoom and to me its best attribute is for the 2nd or 3rd angle,up close or wide angle videoing. I would only get one if you need that 2nd or 3rd angle. I went out and bought a 2nd hand cannon hd camcorder setup by campbell cameras and its the real deal. I would like to try one of the newer gopros but ive spent enough $ on video equipment. At least until i make it on the outdoor channel LOL. Peronally id get a lower end hi-def camcorder if i were you. They have really come a long way in the last couple years IMO and can be had for right around the same price as the new gopro.Let us know what you decide on and how you like it.

My wife got me a hero 3 silver for Christmas and my Son bought me the sportsman mount. To say Im disappointed would be an understatement. I've killed two turkeys in Ga this spring turning my Gopro on both times. First bird was 30 yards, second bird was 35 yards. You can see nothing that resembles a Gobbler on either hunt. maybe a black speck if you know what your looking for. Might as well be 100 yards away, could not be any worse. Plus Im shooting Win Longbeards and combining the big white powder blast that comes from those shells along with the lack of zoom on the camera and your wasting your time mounting it to your gun. I killed a Gobbler in Tenn last sunday on a gas line in the wide open @ 46 yards, didn't even bother to turn camera on. There was no need. These are made for surf boards............Also the gopro studio download on my PC fails to load every time and I have to uninstall and the reinstall it everytime..........

Im a call maker and have discovered it's great for making shop videos, anything close up it's very good. I had a gobbler walk between myself and my decoy at 15 feet and it looked so far away on the footage that I've given up all hope of having a decent hunt to view. It's a shame too cause we are leaving for KS in a few days.

If there was something better I'd buy it over the gopro
