My first question would be is whether or not you can hunt on your side of the fence?  If you can hunt on your side, I would not be calling to those birds until the season is in,...and then I would pull them across the property line.  If you can't hunt your side, then call all you want to.

Yep, this is what I'd do.......that old boy don't own em birds!

Exactly,...lot's of folks don't understand wildlife laws in the U.S.  Non-migratory wildlife in each state, with few exceptions, is owned by the citizens of the state.   Just because a guy has turkeys on his place does not mean he owns them.  He does have the right to control access to his property, however.

So, if you can call those birds off of his place onto a spot you can legally shoot them, as soon as they take one step over the property boundary, they are fair game.  There is nothing I like better than getting a gobbler to come across a fence line where the property owner does not allow hunting, and especially if they are anti-hunters.

That is not because I want to be smug or nasty,...it is just the principle of the thing.

Be sure it is legal - in Illinois it is not legal to use a turkey call prior to the season starting to locate birds.  Granted you are not locating, but it may not be legal until the season actually starts. Other than that, have fun with it!

This is illegal in some states.   Check your regulations.  I would not do it anyway even if it were legal, but at the least you should make sure its legal.

I think you should get to know the person really well and eventually get permission to hunt it once they figure out what kind of a person you are.  I wouldn't just run in and ask immediately,  good luck!
BTW, living that close, you could help keep people \ trespassers off.

I know the person, but NOBODY can go on his land. He has had too many bad experiences....garbage, 4 - wheelers where they shouldn't be, people not asking for permission, etc. he just got sick of it. Can't say that I blame him. We talk occasionally on a "friendly" basis, but I know his answer.

Can't hunt on "my side".....too residential. Although that is where the birds, deer and other game like to call home. LOL

Not that I violate laws, but, I would have a real problem with ANY law that tells me I can't sit on MY DECK on MY PROPERTY and practice my turkey calls. Noise ordinances are the only thing I could think of, and there aren't any. They sure sound different outside vs inside. I think I would have a "Field Day" with this one, if I were cited for this one, for this reason, (using a call before season). However, this is what our world is coming to, but that another story I won't get into. As a matter of fact I don't know or care if it's illegal to practice your calling before season, as I'm doing it.....see ya in court if it is!

P.S. I'm curious....why would you still not do this?

Thanks.

I don't make your laws and don't know if it is illegal in your state or not.   I was merely trying to make you aware of the possibility.  By the way, I don't care if you follow your laws or not. QUIT YELLING!    You will not see me in court!

Sorry!

I didn't mean no disrespect to you and certainly wasn't implying I would see you in court. I was implying I would see the citing LEO in court. Sorry if I sounded rough, but these things (silly laws), really irk me. I apologize if you thought my words were directed at you. I mean no harm and wish you a 20+ pounder!

Must be the long cold winter getting to me.....peace.
