I have another question about my 870 forearm. I took the forearm nut(Not Barrel nut) off and can't get the forearm to slide off.
"Is the forearm and slide bars all one assembly?"
I thought after you took the nut off the forearm would slide away from the slide bar assembly.
Any help?    :OGturkeyhead:

The the action slide bar assembly and the forearm will separate once you take the forend nut off, it just may take some persuasion

I just swapped the factory wood stock out with a synthetic on my 870.  Once the nut is removed it should slide right off.

Do you need a special tool to do this?   I'm going to replacing the wood forearm on my nephew's 870 with a black or camo synthetic one this week.

I just replaced the wooden forend on my 870 Compact. After removing the nut it was still stuck on tight. I just took a small block of wood and tapped the tube of the slide bar lightly to get it to move. After that I had to move it back and forth to work it off the bar assembly.

The new synthetic forearm slid right on.
