I'm looking at a trip to Kansas (central) the first week of may.  We went last year for the bow opener and it was not the best weather.  How are the birds that first week in may?  Is it too late for them to be working much?

I took a look because I've been considering KS this year and have not hunted it.  KS runs to the end of May.  You will be fine the first week of May.

I've been around the 10th of May before to private land. Struck the call once on the first morning and pulled a Rio away from a hen and POW. 10 min later I spotted another gobbler about 300 yds off in a field. Struck the call one time and he came running POW Rio/ Eastern hybrid down.

My trip was done by 8am the first morning.

Been the last two years the first week of May. They worked in just fine for me. Going the second week this year.

There is no bad time to hunt Kansas....sooooo many birds. If can't kill one there then you're really doing something wrong. Go and have a blast

You will be fine.  Birds will work.

That is about the same time I go up every year.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

I go about the 1st of May as well .
Like posted as far as I'm concerned there is no bad time to hunt Kansas

Could deal.  I'm really looking forward to going.  We are going back to misty morning outfitters.  We had a pretty rough time last year, but the business has changed hands now and looks to be going well....they always had the game, just some other issues...but I think the new owner matt is handling things nicely now.  We spoke with them at the convention and made a deal for a return trip..so we will see.

We are headed there the first part of that week then flying on to Wyoming

The only bad time I had in Kansas is when I waited until Memorial Day weekend.  The temps were peaking in the high 90s, the skeeters were attacking in clouds, and nothing gobbled.  To make things worse, every motel within 80 miles of where I focused my hunt was booked solid.  Hopefully, that was just a one time fluke...except for the motel part, though.

Heading out for central Kansas may8 myself gonna hunt there 4 days then up to Nebraska for 4 days!! Can't wait

If you are west far enough to be after Rios you are fine anytime during the season  I've killed them during the early bow season in cold temps and I've killed them on the last day of May when it pushed 100 degrees.  Lots of birds in places and you can usually find a hot Rio if you put in some windshield time.

Further east, the Easterns are, well, Easterns . . .
