Tail Feathers

I'm excited.  :happy0064: I've been studying guns, recommendations, reviews and pattern pictures for two weeks.  I finally decided on the Winchester SX3 20 gauge.  I handled one at the local gunstore, but it was a waterfowl version.  It was SWEET!  Fits great and the weight was lighter than I expected after reading up on them.  Handled like a dream for me.
I bought the Universal Hunter version that comes drilled and tapped, 26" barrel in MO Infinity Camo.
I seriously considered the NWTF with cantilever but that's a half a pound heavier and with the Universal Hunter I keep the option of using it for wingshooting.  I can't wait to get my hands on it! :z-guntootsmiley:
Gotta save a bit more for a choke now. :icon_thumright:

Here she is.  26" barrel, shown with stock extension removed-13 1/4" LOP here.  Sure makes the barrel look long but it really isn't.  Drilled and tapped, SWEET handling!

Hey, first, congrats on the purchase.... :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

I'm seriously considering buying a 20ga to turkey hunt with and possibly do some wing shooting with.  Can you post pictures of the gun?  Have you looked at SumToy chokes?  I use them in my 12ga and love them!

Thanks!!

I bought it through BudsGunShop.com so I won't have it for another week or so I'm guessing.  I will post pics tho!  I haven't done much looking into chokes for it yet, but Sumtoy is the one I'm favoring.  I'm thinking I'd be real happy with about 170 in the 10 and a strong 16" pattern using the HW 7's.  Sounds like Sumtoy could do that.

Very cool!  I'll look forward to viewing them when you get the chance.  Let us know what you end up choosing for a choke.  I may copycat you....LOL

Memert, I'll let you know.  I read a post on another forum where the guy had the same gun and really liked his Carlson't .585 flush mount choke with HW 7's.  Saw one post with 143 in the 10" circle from another guy with the same combo.  For $22 to my door, I ordered one.  :icon_thumright:
I'll try that first.  If I like it, I don't have the added length of an extended choke.  If it doesn't suit me I'm calling Sumtoy and I'm still not out too much for trying the Carlsons.
I will let you know, hopefully within the next few weeks.  I only have a few HW 7's left to shoot.  I have some on backorder right now.

Very nice.

Will the Burris 336 mount fit on it with the current holes?

Thanks guys.  I haven't looked into a base for it yet.  I know Winchester sells one for it but I don't know about any others.
I would love to shoot the bead with it.  I'll have to test more before I decide if that will suffice for me.

I did go out and function test it yesterday.  I shot 5 rounds of 1 1/4 oz heavy pheasant load 6's at some steel targets on the range.  Wind was heavy and I didn't have my turkey choke at the time so no paper was killed.  It is a real soft shooter.  TONS less recoil than my 835. :z-winnersmiley:
It seemed to hit point of aim at 25 yards, but I need to shoot some paper to verify.  The steel targets were only about 14" wide and I had a modified choke in so it wasn't a good test for sight-in.   Very impressed with the soft shooting compared to the 12 gauges I've shot.
