Why is it that Toms loose tail feathers? I've seen a video of a Tom without a single tail feather...Is it from kicking or were they plucked out by other birds?

I'd say that he's molting getting new feathers for winter.  All birds molt.
No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.
