So if Winchester brings out the Longbeard load in 20 gauge .

And they do as well as the 12 gauge has improved.

Who will be switching to them?

Reasons why?

gwa

It's not out yet so it's a moot point and question.

Devastator

Even if they do make them i won't be changeing, ive got enough Fed HW 7's to hopefully last me a lifetime.

^^ this.   I've stocked up on the hw 7s, and don't care to shoot anything else.  Sure I might buy some to play with but 7s will be in the gun when it comes down to killin

20 gauge is just a different animal. I have a good bit of hvw7 so I don't need to change anything but I'd buy a box to try for sure

Longshanks

#5
Turning 170's-180's with Fed HW 7's @ 40 and stocked up on shells when I hit this combo. Shooting 130's-140's with Hevi 6's at 40 as well. Stocked up on them too before the price went up. I will sit on the sidelines for the Win LB's and 20g developments. Be interesting to see what they will do if they produce them. Hard to beat HTL out of the 20g.

If they do and if I can get the #5 and #6(of which they better count on offering if they go this route), then I will be purchasing some three to four boxes and that's it. This is assuming pretty good patterns at 35 yards (120+) and 85+ at 40 but there needs to be consistently good numbers and pattern distribution.

I feel that this could be a super load for the 20s and that includes a lot of the modified barrels of yore.
I haven't sold off any chokes yet as I came to realize a long while back that when new shells come along they may call for a different choke.

They never respond with anything other than thank you for your input, blah, blah, blah.

There were no plans for any 20 gauge LB shells the last time I spoke with the folks at Winchester. I've not really heard any reports on sales for the 12 gauge shells yet this year. I still see some on dealer's shelves but don't know how popular they've been over all.

In the past, most companies have introduced a 12 gauge shell to test the market and it's been a year or two later that they introduce a 20 gauge shell.

Time will tell.

Thanks,

I'll bet with Winchester being Winchester they will only offer them in #5 and skip over #6.  :z-twocents:

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

When I talked to the Winchester rep. at the NWTF convention in Nashville, he anticipated that it would be 2 years before the Longbeard would be offered in 20 gauge. He indicated that they still had some research and development on the 20 gauge before they would be ready for production.  I'm sure still speculation at this point?

Wow 2 years? I guess i did ask abit early. this past Feb. or March people on here were asking about contacting them for 20 gauge.  Well i thought they might make them soon. The 20 gauge market is huge right now, 20 gauge youth and ladies and mens are everywhere now. Go figure. :z-dizzy:

I am good...

I have enough Winchester #5's, Hevi 6's and HWT 7's for 150+ birds plus playing on the range.

Also just bought all the stuff to load TSS so I am just out of the 20 gauge lead market.
