I managed to avoid one all of turkey season, but this one showed up in the yard this afternoon. I had just finished changing the oil in my mower and just happened to glance up across the front yard. My shotgun and vest were still in my truck, so I grabbed my 870 and a shell out of my vest. My son was playing not far from me and I was trying to get him outside so the shot wouldn't scare him too bad. By the time I got to the snake, he had almost made it to the flower bed where he would have disappeared in that jungle. I will give a snake a pass if he isn't bothering me, especially if a turkey is gobbling in the area, but this one got too close to my son's stomping grounds. I put the FF3 red dot on his head and took it off. He had ten rattlers and was about five foot long.

Genesis 27:3 - Now then, get your weapons—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

Yea......... You can't let that type of snake stay around an area where kids play.  Too dangerous.
