I myself have only got to go out one morning this week before work and that was only for about an hour with no luck, but was thankful to have that time on high on the ridge to open the season up and talk to God some.  Nathan and Chris have been after em hard all week bouncing from farm to farm trying to find active birds and it hasnt been easy at all.  Tight lipped birds due to the front and most having hens with them still.  Very little gobbling monday morning, no luck.  But, Chris did roost a bird right in front of his house Monday evening and they went in real early Tuesday morning to set up on the bird in hopes he was alone and would come in.  They got set up with decoys out, no gobbling but they saw the bird fly down, bird came right to them and popped up 10 yards behind the decoys, game over!! Gobbler never made a sound but it worked, roosted was roasted!!! Shows the importance of roosting sometimes, if they wouldnt have known that bird was there they didnt have a prayer since they werent gobbling.

Big ol gobbler and Nathan's second bird ever, and second in two years.  No footage of this hunt because of the steady rain and wanting to keep cameras dry.  But great hunt.  11.25" beard, 1" spurs, 20-21 pounds.  Good 3 year old bird.

No action at all yesterday, no gobbles again.  So today they decided to go to a new place that is prime turkey habitat.  Big ridges, all hardwoods, but covered in well roads and perfect for strutting turkeys!! We knew there would be birds there, and boy were we right!! They parked and stepped out and let out an owl hoot and turkeys erupted all around them.  Set up on 2 right off the limb and they came to 100 yards but stayed down on a side road and strutted and gobbled, eventually hens led them away.  Got up and walked a little ways and struck 3 on different points.  They set up on one and as soon as they got the decoys out and sat down he gobbled in the road where they just came from, he was love sick and on his way.  Get ready and here he comes. Filmed him strut down the road 100 yards right to the decoys where Chris laid the hammer on him!! Beautiful bird with big fan, 9 1/2 inch beard, 3/4 spurs, good 2 year old bird!! Amazing footage and we have been truly blessed so far!

They are still out hunting and have been covered up in birds since.  Set up on multiple gobbling birds, some alone and some with hens.  Maybe they will connect on another one before the day is up, still got some good time to hunt.  I will be out with them in the morning early before work in hopes of getting on some and will be out Saturday on my farm ready to roll one.  Things are picking up and getting good, the best is ahead of us!! God Bless Everyone!!

Just got this pic from them.  That is what you call a blessed day when you roll a longbeard on film and find some "Moochers" of this size!! HUGE!!! Pretty awesome!!

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Congrats.  I tried in vain to find some shrooms this morning.  Need some to go with the turkey breast and crappie I've got.  :z-guntootsmile:
