Set up on a roosted bird this morning, really vocal, pitched down came in on a string.  Gets somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 yards, throws he head up turns and runs about 20 yards and takes flight! I was set up perfectly, never had to adjust my a@# or my gun! Turned around and expected to see someone waving an orange flag but nothing! I assume he's been spooked before but good grief how did I get made!?!

I understand your situation.  On Saturday got about 60 yards from a group of roosted birds by dumb luck.  I was just going to go there to listen expecting I would have to move to set up.  Sounded like 2 or 3 jakes and one longbeard by the gobbles and a few hens.  They gobbled well in the tree, I yelped lightly one time and they gobbled at me, 15 minutes later the first jake flies down and land 20 yards from me and looks right at me and starts putting and walking away.  I know I didn't move, but was set up in a spot a little too open against a smaller tree.  Of course the rest flew down the other way.  Once they were all gone I took my hat off to look at it I thought maybe I put on a white or orange hat by accident.  Seems like it takes at least one time every year before I remember not to sit right at the edge of a field.

I took my 7 year old out Sat. morning to a spot I've hunted for 15 years. At around 5:30 when I got out of my truck which was parked right next to a house and barn I shut the door and a turkey gobbled about 40 yds away on a crick bank. I've never seen that before. Needless to say he flew shortly after...right to the spot I was planning to set up. WTF! Plan B that's what.

You just never know.  I've had the same thing happen to me.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

You may have done nothing wrong. I had 2 hens at 10 yards for 15 minutes.  After they left a hen stepped out on the field.  She saw something she did not like from 75 yards away. I had not moved or changed a thing.  I scanned the field after she bolted and saw nothing.  Still have no idea.  Had 2 jakes at 25 yards not an hour later, happy as clams.
