First off, I'm not trying to get anybody's secrets here or even any how-tos. I'm just trying to learn and know a little more. I hear and see talk and posts about glass over this and that and crystal over this and that and ceramic over this and that and so forth. Does that mean that there is two pieces of different material in the same wooden pot? I know that sound is vibration. Is it because one vibration transmits to the other material and gives the sound you're looking for?
Another question is, does the wood make a difference in sound or is it just for looks? I know that these are dumb questions so will someone please dumb this down for me.
Thanks

West Augusta

Monty, yes there are two pieces in a pot call.  The first is the surface and the second is the sound board.  Glass over slate is a Glass playing surface with a slate sound board.  The pot call woods do have some affect on the sound of the call but more so the striker wood.
No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

Not dumb questions at all.  Trying to understand how a call works and why the acoustics are what they are and how changes effect a call..... That's call making at its roots in my opinion.

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field

Thank y'all for the replies. I've got a curious mind and like to know how things work and more speciffically, what it takes to make them work. For me personally, those things help me make better use of something.
