I'm looking for a new choke tube to replace the Jelly head. I went to the range to shoot the heavy shot 13, because I'm switching over to them. I got 76 pellets in 10in circle the that combo. I would appreciate any recommendations any of you Mossberg 500 shooters can give me.

Well I will tell you before any one says it...Sumtoy.

How ever I don't have one or have shot one.

I am running a IC 555 in my 500 running Winchester Double Xs #5s.

With this combo

35 yards 132

40 yards 101

Which is pretty good IMO with 5s...Another plus to these shells is they are easy to get and cheap.

This gun is 9 years old and has never had the barrel polished, which is on the to do list next week.

I also picked up some turkey thugs #5s and Fed HW 7s today which I will try when I polish the barrel next week.

Season is still two weeks out here so I have time to play around.

I will say that Mike at IC did recommend the Hevi 13s...So if you have a few of them try the IC out....I really wanted to try Hevi 13 in 6s but haven't found any local.

You really have a lot of choices in chokes. The 500 has the same barrel i.d. as the 535 and the 930. I shoot all those guns and find them to be very consistent performers, especially with the Hevi-13 shotshells. I know you'll like them in your gun.

I try to shoot all the different brands of commercially produced turkey chokes and in all the exit diameters offered. Several are very good and my readers shoot a variety of them. I get feedback from them as well as my own experience at my range.

It's just hard to beat the performance of the SSX and the price is very good as well. Other good chokes are the Hevi-13, Pure Gold, Wright's and now hard to find Strangler chokes. Trulock and Carlson are good as well. Many choices in several price ranges.

Of all of them, I make the SSX my first choice but again, the others are good as well.

Thanks,
Clark

Correct. It's the SSX made by Truglo and designed by Roger Burrell. We shoot that choke in a number of our 12 gauge Mossberg shotguns both for hunting and in competition.

I would think you would be spot on with the .660.... Seems strange to me that the numbers are so low.

Which Hevi's are you shooting?  Mag Blends or straight 6's, or 7's?

Hmm...  I would think you should be getting around 150 or so...
What were you shooting before the Hevi's and what numbers were you getting with those?

Have you deep cleaned the barrel?  Checked for POI ?
