We decided we would do a controlled burn this year on about 3 acres we had let grow up over the last 3-4 years. Timing could not have been better, burned yesterday now its snowing on it today. I'm thinking the turkeys will be loving this spot once it greens up  ;D

Lots of things.
Ash makes a great place to dust
Promotes tender new growth which greens up really quick...great turkey food
Biologist also told me that fire kills lots of insects buried in the matted grass which turkeys will now find and eat

Yes sir they love a burn.  Open up the ground giving them better access and better vision of any predator trying to sneak up on them, dusting in the ash, parched seeds and bugs to eat now, fresh green growth will attract live insects to eat throughout the spring.

One of my favorite places to hunt is a large WMA here in Oklahoma which they burn a few thousand acres every year.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

From what I have seen, they like the bugs and seeds that are easier to find after a burn.

I shot a working tom in Kansas a few years ago.  Following his hens, gobbling his head off, while the field was still on fire in places!

A few of his toenails were melted in spots, and his feet were black with ash...

About a month ago the DNR burned a few hundred acres in 40 to 80 acre fields and I was looking at them just this past weekend. They are starting to green up some. It looks great.

I've killed em in spots with the fire still smoldering. Camo doesn't work to good in those places. Best to dress like a ninja lol
