This might have been posted before but i was just wandering if anyone did this and if so what do you use and how do you refill the cartridges with?
Respect the land as well as the game you hunt.

CASH

A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands, love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper; his hands remember the rifle.

I make my own pads too!
break  mosquito coils into pieces and drop them into a bottle of acetone fingernail polish (pure unscented acetone with no other ingredients. buy at Wmart) let the coil soak in the acetone overnight then pour it into a shallow pan lined with your used thermacell pads. The Acetone will evaporate leaving behind the active chemical in your pads.

OK, I just got  a Thermacell about a month ago.  I won't be using it everyday of the season, VA doesn't get as warm as the southern states do as early.  So anyway, does this save that much money, is it wortht the hassle?  Just asking since I just got one.

Thanks,

Kevin
Kevin MI is much like you in the spring.. I personally dont worry about it and buy the packs.. When this came about is the fact that  you run through more butane than you do pads, or else I do..

I do have one Thermacell that is hot, it burns more butane than the others.. I use it on them muggy warm mornings LOL

i dont use mine until later in the season. like shootum said its really less hassle to just buy the butane bottles and pads

I guess it all depends on how often you use it, where you hunt and what kind of budget you are on.
I use mine all season down here in the south georgia flat woods and the bugs will bleed you dry if you dont hit them with a cocktail of deet and thermacell. I save a good bit of cash by making my own pads and refilling my butane cartridge. not to mention there was about 2 weeks in the middle of last years season that the refill packs were not in any of the local stores due to some kind of supply issue.

TrophyTracker

I run mine in hour intervals. It stretches the butane and still keeps the bugs at bay. The mat will continue to give off repellent long enough to let the unit chill a bit before firing back up to give a boost.

You might check ebay for the butane cartridges.  Somebody makes a curling iron that uses the same cartridge and you can sometimes find them by the case for less (per cartridge) than the ones packaged for the bug repelant.
