Hey guys,
Shot some distance shots this weekend but can't upload on here because of distance. Shooting a 12 gauge 870 with a 28" barrel and 3 1/2" shells. Choke is a .665 jelly head. The shells I shot were longbeard 5s and 4s. Let's just say they will hammer! After my #4 patterns, I'm gonna shoot up my hevi and be done with it. They will flop one farther than I am willing to shoot. Don't be afraid to try 4s, I bought two boxes of 5s then tried the 4s and now my dad has two boxes of 5s ha. Outrageous #4 patterns.  Give them a try, unless you hunt around me. Then use low brass #9.

Post up some pics if ya got some. I love looking at solid #4 patterns.

Can we post a pic past 40?

BandedSpur

You can once. Not so sure about follow up posts.

SCDieselDawg

Ive shot a few of the 3.5" LB #4s. I shot one yesterday along with a #5 for comparison. Needless to say my 870 SM will shoot them both exceptionally well.

Ok. I better not then. Saturday I will shoot a lasered 40 and post. I only pattern my max range and 20 yards because every shell I have tried will kill at 40. I can tell ya come then it will blow your mind is my guess. At my max range I had between 18-22 on average in the head and neck. The last pattern I shot was 10 yards past that and I had around 15.  Though it started to show some questionable holes.

I'm glad to hear all the good news about Winchester Long Beards, I have a couple boxes of 3" and 3 1/2" shells #5's.  I have a SX3 to pattern but its been too cold here and I have to travel about 3 hours to a place where I can put my targets up and shoot.  So it will probably be a little while before I get to pattern mine.  Glad to hear you used a .665 choke, I bought a briley .665 to use.  Hope winchester likes it.

From what I have seen out of the winchester barrels on this site, that .665 should lay the hammer down with the 5's.  I think it is comparable with a .670 or .675 in a remington, and my old undertaker (.675) put up nearly identical numbers.  I just like the Jellyhead because it can pattern the hevi shot that I have left better than the undertaker.  Plus it looks a bit more even with the jellyhead.

MuddyRiver

I've gotten great patterns with 3 1/2 LB #4's out of my SBE, 24" barrel, and Briley straight rifled turkey choke .665.     If your gun will shoot 4's it is the only way to go in my opinion.

#4's shot good out of my SBE with a .655 Rhino and a Comp N Choke XXX .655

How do you upload a picture if it says the file is too large. I got 151 in the ten at 40 but it won't let me post it from my iPhone.

You might need to resize the pic to a smaller size.  if your iphone is already capable then you're good.  If not you can download pic resizing apps for free from the i store.

You just can't beat that for pattern and if it won't kill him with that you probably couldn't have toted it out by yourself anyway.
