Banding birds
February 11, 2014, 08:01:13 PM
Mo Dept of Cons. was looking for property to do some bird trapping,so I volunteered our property. After some baiting we were consistently getting a group of about 15-20 hens and a group of 4 longbeards. They came and set everything up last night(02/10)and sat today.I got the call about 4 that they had got 5 birds so I drove out to see what they had.Much to my surprise and theirs, they had netted a group of 5 jakes. They were very pleased to see/capture jakes.I got to assist in banding and installing transmitters on the birds, then got to release them. Was a very neat and educational experience!!And was very happy to see a nice little group of jakes for future prospects.

That's cool! I assume they used the rocked net? I've always wanted to push the button on that thing!

Very very interesting. It will be cool to see where the jakes wind up in the future. Great job!

Dude that is cool right there. If I wasn't a minister I would love to be involved in wildlife conservation and management. There is not telling what story those birds will tell us. Very fascinating

It's amazing work , ive seen the ones here in Florida , the transmitters are so small when they put them on
try not to advertise it to your local neighbors , they may try to make a good effort to get a banded bird as a trophy

Very cool. Never heard of a banded turkey. Be a trophy to get one in a few years as an old limbhanger.
