I go to missouri every year. Looking into going to Kansas or Kentucky. How is the public land populations and where to go and not to go? Comparable to mark twain nf. Thanks

Don't know about Kentucky, but I was on the Kansas DNR website this evening. It said that LESS than 1% of land in Kansas is open to the public. Most of the public areas I saw on their website were 100-300 acres, not many held turkeys, and the larger NWR's required non-toxic shot for ANY shotgun hunting, including turkeys. :z-dizzy:

Yep Kansas isn't overrun with public opportunity WIHA require scouting because many are worthless for turkeys. The WMA land will be heavily hunted because lot of out of state hunters hit it Kentucky has more opportunity if your willing to walk national forest is where I would look to

. We hunted in the stockton area and there were lots of them little WIHA areas and they all had birds on them. Tons of turkeys around that area everywhere there was a field there was gobblers strutting.

I've had great luck with WIHA areas in KS.  Can take a lot of windshield time to find ones with birds, but we've killed plenty on small (40 - 200 acre) wiha's

Genesis 27:3 - Now then, get your weapons—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

LBL in Western KY has plenty of birds but you need to research the season structure for hunting it.  Seems like a few early days are by limited draw (still crowded) and later season is unlimited.  I haven't looked at their regs in a while.
