OK, I know those that have bought DSD decoys will likely concure, it wasn't easy pulling the trigger on these! But, I've got the Jake & an upright Hen on the way...I've had them in my shopping cart numerous times over the last year from one online vendor or another, but just couldn't push the buy button!

I figured I could get threw my 2nd season without them, but in the end, I knew it wasn't a fluke that everyone that has them says they are nasty sweet! I'll be hunting with my bow again & having a nice set of decoys will likely help me when I'm stuck in that blind unable to go run and gun.

I guess I'll use my other 3 decoys to make a flock, and I'll have them for my kids to use on another part of the farm when we have 3-4 hunters going out on the same day.

I am going to bag my first Turkey this spring if it is the last thing I do!

I just ordered a Jake to go along with my upright hen.  ;D

I got mine on Monday and just flat out was knocked out of my shoes. I never really use decoys but I might be hunting an area of really open woods so I figured its time to get one. And I can say enough....you'll see when you get yours in the mail. I got the jake and Im pretty scared to use it.

I was sitting here tonight thinking about what I'd do if mine got stalked by other hunters! I can se myself yelling "they are decoys...THEY''RE DECOOOOYS!" Maybe a Hunter orange sign on a small post that says "DECOYS", just off to the side of them, might be in order as well!

Yelling works I've been stalked a few times myself in the begging of my turkey hunting which is why I stopped using them.

I always use a decoy , there are hunters that will shoot at the sound of a caller , and I've seen it happen     >:( another reason I place a decoy out , if anyone is getting shot it's mr plastic

it's somewhat confusing to explain not in person so I apologize -- whenever I use a decoy I  place the decoy lined up ...... just EXACTLY in front and against a tree this is so that if some one walks up to your location and decides to shoot it ......they can't get a straight shot angle at you and you wont be sprayed - the decoy should between you and the tree , if you don't have a tree ..... In front of any obstruction so that any person can't see it and line it up with you - the bigger the tree the better ...and to be clear in front means between you and the obstruction

Open fields that you can see for a long long ways , are best - just make sure no rifles are allowed in your area ---- if it's out in a open field and there is no fear of anyone walking up to it

I like to place the decoy out at a distance where I know my shotgun pattern is opened up to the size of a dinner plate -  30-35 yards for me , and I pace it off ..... When anything gets close I know exactly how far it is and when it is in range --   If your shooting a open choke gun you may want to move the decoy in closer -  it's harder for me to hit a turkey at 10 yards then at 30 , so that's the logic behind that --

Never , never place a decoy in  a regularly used trail , path or road and then go sit down on the side of that trail

Old gobbler, you are confusing me, as it sounds like you are saying that the tree should be the monkey in the middle? Tree, decoy, you. VS what I imagine to be the safe set up of "The big fat tree, me leaning against the tree, and then directly out in front of me 35 yards would be the decoy"? No?

""the decoy should between you and the tree"", shouldn't I be between the tree, close to the tree, and the decoy out front? OR are you saying, sit against a big fat tree, put decoys out 30 yards & have those decoys lined up directly infront of another big fat tree. Thus, big fat tree, hunter sitting against big fat tree, 30 yards of dead space, decoy, 2nd big fat tree/obstruction direcly behind decoy? Obstructions on both ends, everything in a nice neat line?

Forgive my simplistic artwork --- this is what I am describing-- also if any one walks in from behind you you are safer this way too

The yellow cone is a safe zone where nobody can spray you from overshot -- the farther away the decoy is from you 25 yards plus and the bigger the tree or bush the better

I love the illustration! So, it was the 4 ducks in a row OR tree, me, decoy, tree layout.

Those DSD decoys are some awesome looking!  Once I get alittle more use out of the Primos PHD decoy I bought in 2011 I will probably pick one of the DSD's up.  How they bring them in close for ya!

God bless
