Southern Fall Food Plot Question

Hey y'all I'm new to food plots but im planting this year.  I have access to a tractor and hunt in the deep south. I was wondering if y'all have any advice on what to plant for attraction purposes. I am already doing the soil test for the fertilizer and lime but I am undecided on what exactly I want to plant. Again I'm looking to attract deer to the property and have these plots be "kill plots" to hunt over. Any advice is appreciated and thanks again.

Hey Southern.  Welcome to OG.  I've been food plotting here in Eastern NC for about 10 years and we use a grain (Winter Rye, Winter Wheat with Oats) for starters.  Add in some Austrian Winter Peas (candy for deer) and a clover (Red or Crimson is good) and you'll have a kill plot.  The clover won't do much for you this fall but it will supply food and attraction for your deer and turkeys next spring.  The deer here also love rape and turnips (Dwarf Essex Rape and Purple Top Turnips) work well.  You may not see a lot of usage until a frost hits them but you will have tons of food for the deer well into February.  Get your PH to around 6.5 and you'll be OK.  You can get GREAT info from the QDMA website http://www.qdma.com/forums/   Experiment, have fun and Good Luck with whatever you plant.
