I shot these two gobblers in KS last week. The first bird had an 8" beard and 3/4" spurs. There were four gobblers that came to my calling at 7:00 PM. Two were jakes with barely visible beards, the bird I shot and another mature gobbler that didn't present a shot. As soon as my bird cleared the other birds I shot. Betty Beretta had another gobbler to her credit aided by Hevi-13 7's.
My second bird has an 11" beard and 1" spurs. He was with a group of 9 hens and another mature gobbler. I called the group to within 60 yards in a picked cornfield and then the hens started feeding away from me. One gobbler followed the hens and my gobbler came to within 35 yards looking for the hen that was calling. At 7:05 AM Betty Beretta spoke and the load of Hevi-13 7's flattened him. He's the bird in the pic.
If I had a dollar for every gobbler I thought I fooled I'd be well off!
