Encore strikes again. From a treestand!

On my afternoon hunts I like to sit in the same place sometimes and call very little. On morning hunts I move more and try to get after a hot bird.

This afternoon I got to the farm in TN and it had rained a ton since last week. The grass was so high in the fields that I really didn't know if I could even see the birds.

I had a Lone Wolf hang-on stand and some ladder sticks in the garage. I grabbed the stand, two sections of sticks and headed to the top corner of a field. It took me about 30 minutes to put up the stand (only about 8-10 ft up) and clear some lanes so I could see in to the field.

I settled in and turned on the thermacell and let out one series of soft yelps. I was actually practicing aiming in to the field and heard the dreaded "puttputtputt". A gobbler had come in silent and busted me.

I was disappointed, but I thought maybe he wasn't alone and the combination of the high grass and the fact that I was in a treestand might help me.

I don't remember if I called again, but less than 5 minutes later three gobblers came in from a different direction!  I almost studied them too long trying to make sure I knew which one was the boss. They started to lose interest and head off. I shot lead bird at about 40 yards.

The whole hunt lasted about 45 minutes and 30 of that was getting set up! This was my fourth big Tom this year; 2 in SC and 2 in TN. I hunted my butt off last year and only killed one. I seem to have a lot of success every other year.

I might video some more, but I don't think I am going to shoot anymore birds this season. This farm is getting overrun with coyotes, so I think I will put up the turkey calls and get out the FoxPro predator caller.

Anyway, this guy was exactly 21#, 11" beard and 1.5" spurs.
T/C Encore 12 ga with 20" barrel. 3" 2oz  H13 Magblends.

Anyone else ever use a treestand for turkeys?

I have killed several out of a treestand, but it was just due to the fact that there was one existing where I was hunting.  I have never toted a lockon in to kill a turkey.
