if i was a betting man i would suggest it is from a fight. another bird grabbed hold and pulled most of his beard off. never seen it but have heard and read about birds pulling the beard off another. the remaining strands do not seem to have a stress line from beard rot and i have seen alot of shot up breads but none with all strands missing clean at the same level.
