Is there a reason why you cant follow the specific directions that are posted? I suggest that you not polish your hunting chokes, I always just stick a cheapy modified in the barrel before i start.

the reason still shoot, card , and turkey gun aficionados recommend the solvent is to get the plastic-powder and any other fowling out of the bore

When we were kids we remember the swimming pools with slides on them , in order to slide down it , it had to get wet - or you would hook up on the fiberglass clear coat , and get a hell of a burn on your ---- That was a exaggerated example to point out the importance of surface and friction  --    the same kind of mentality ( but a dry one )  is towards the steel or chrome bore of your shotgun , the fowling , oil , plastic will somehow do something to some peoples wads ,and affect the  patterns as it whips out of there at 1,200 fps -- I can only lend you my limited experience in that when I clean the bore out with a solvent - wipe it down DRY inside the bore - no oil  my guns will shoot tighter - 

At still shoots and card shoots , there is all kinds of concoctions and methods people use to clean out the bores in the lineup from what people say

The "deep cleaning" process utilizes both the chemical action of the solvent, I use Hoppe's #9 and the action of the agitation of the brush to do the job. By first scrubbing with a brush that is very wet with solvent and then allowing the solvent time to work on its own, then repeating the process, you can remove lots of "gunk" that might otherwise foul the bore.

I followed Clark's process to a T. The Hoppes #9 is what I used on my 870 and my 935. My 20 gauge patterns picked up 18% and my 12 gauge patterns picked up 14%.

I used Clark's method and the results were fantastic. I don't know how often you need to deep clean or after how many shells, but I do a light clean after every shot. Lots of work but it really helps.

thanks to everyone ill use hoppes number 9 i was just wondering bc i got a bunch of lube job gun cleaner and i didnt know if it was as strong as the hoppes....ill have to go pick some up

Worked well for me! I have done it on a couple barrels, and I believe it really helps!
