Flying with guns case vs rules

If I have an SKB golf case coukd I load it with clothes and gear and put shotguns in it?  Fly this way with bow a lot never tried it with shotgun.  Hat having extra luggage just with a gun case when flying.  The SKB is ATA approved so the gun in it has me wondering.  If I were flying with rifle I would but shotgun should be protected fine.
