I just bought a 11-87 sportsman synthetic 26" barrel. I shoot the hevishot 7s and am looking to buy a new choke. Has anyone shot the jellyhead with this combo and how did it pattern?  Any other ideas of a choke for under $60 with this combo?

Forgot to mention is a 12 gauge (not a 3.5" mag gun) and already have 7 boxes of the hevishot 7s.

I have heard good things with those guns and Jellyheads.
However, if it were me, I would contact William Lambert. He goes by SumToy on this forum, and he makes some FANTASTIC chokes! He won't quit till you are satisfied!

Congratulations! Those are great guns and you've also picked an excellent shell. I have one of those guns, had 2 until just recently, and I've shot a variety of chokes with them. There are several that do quite well. The Hevi-13 turkey choke is one, the SSX is another and the Wright's limited production turkey choke is another one that does well with those shells. All those chokes are quite different in design, but they all will allow your gun to throw dense patterns at ranges up to 40 yards with that shell.

Whatever you choose, enjoy your new gun and best of luck this spring.

Thanks,
Clark

P.S. Your 11-87 will benefit from a "deep cleaning" prior to taking it to the range or to the turkey woods.

Tell me more about how to go about a deep cleaning? Also how do you polish the barrel?

I have had awesome results with the jellyhead .660 in the Rem. some have got good results from the jellyhead .665 also. I have not tried the Hevi shot choke but some are getting good results from them to. As far as deep cleaning Clark has a page on his web site about it,"allaboutshooting.com"

There is a sticky note at the top of the Turkey Guns page that covers this in great detail.

A second vote for Sumtoy. That's what I shoot my two autos.

You can read the article "Cleaning a Shotgun Barrel" which covers the process of deep cleaning at http://allaboutshooting.com/article_info.php?articles_id=282

I recommend that you try that process first. Many times that's all you really need to do to improve your patterns. It's really necessary on new barrels or on barrels that have never been deep cleaned.

Thanks,
Clark

Clean your barrel with brush and get a good choke.  A LOT of guns that have been turned to junk by folks trying to clean or polish it.     :TrainWreck1:

For the money  JH is a real good choke in a remington.

SumToy and IC is on the upper end.   Now I build the SumToy and will tell you the JH is hard to beat if you have it you will most likely be happy with it.

I shoot a jelly head .660 out of a 23" 870 with 3.5" 7's and its devastating. With the longer barrel of your setup, you will probably get great numbers with the .665 as well as the .660
