I got a new to me Mossberg SSI with a 24" turkey barrel.
I plan to shoot it, deep clean and shoot and then polish and shoot it. Just to see how it improves.
I then plan to handload some TSS.
Any suggestions on chokes for this bore and TSS?

Congratulations! Those are such great guns. I've had one for years. I only shoot factory loads, so I can't be of any help with your hand loads but I do recommend that you put a Shooter's Friend on the butt. It has a bit of a kick!

Thanks,
Clark

I'll consider that tip. I knew you had one. I thought you might be too busy at the "Grand".

TSS go with 700 to 720.  SumToy or IC has been working.  I think PG should work also.

Now normal loads 675 then put Star Dot in with the above.

What Clark said about kicking is true. I have a similar gun (thumbhole 535) and it has a wicked kick with 3.5 inch shells.  Got instant headache and taste of blood in my mouth before I put a Limbsaver pad on the back. Now its tolerable. Your gun should sho-nuff kill some turkeys, just be prudent about distances, as we all should with any gun.

The 535 is in no way similar to the SSI other than the name on the side of the gun.

I think the bore is similar to the 935/835 guns. What is the diameter of the factory ulti mag?  I have shot them from 7 to 47 but I prefer 25 to 40 yards.

You're right on the money. It has the same i.d. as those guns .775 but it has a heavier barrel than either of them.

They are exceptionally well made guns with excellent fit and finish. I know you'll really like that gun.

Thanks,
Clark
