As you know!

Here in Florida we have a statute known as stand your ground law.

Me and a safe full of Remington's will execute that law to the best of our abilities if someone wants to break in our home.

Being friends with many law enforcement officials also helps.

If you have the big dogs covered, I would get an ankle biter.  A small dog that will bark at anything and get the big dogs attention.  Then, look at camera systems,  burglar alarms etc.  I hear that Smith and Wesson makes a nice one.  :TooFunny:
No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

Amen. If they dont want to die, then dont break in. Its that simple.

Hate to hear of this. I haven't read every reply, but I would definitely look into some type of security monitoring. The reason I'm saying this is because realistically, someone can't be home all the time. If it is someone semi-local, they will simply observe until they think they can break in when the coast is clear. I remember when someone broke into the home of a school friend of mine and stole their guns 40+ years ago. Due to the different schedules of the family members, there was only a small window when no one was home, less than 1 hour if I remember correctly, but the thieves knew when to hit. Good luck.

Since this happened the other day, I've been looking at several different types of home security systems. I have found a few that are just alarm systems that will cover every entrance and window in the house. Has auto dialing features to go to programmed phones of my choosing. Even has fail safes such as auto alarm if the phone or power is cut. A couple of 140 db alarms in the house should at least deter anyone who decides they want to enter uninvited.

I'm just glad the guy decided to turn around and flee and the kids are safe. Heck, if I was breaking in through a window and seen some 6'5" looking at me, I'd probably turn around and run too. If that did not deter him, then my son is 6'4". Though they are 15 and 16 year olds, I have tried to teach them some common sense when it comes to someone breaking in and always hoped they would not have to ever use it. It just happened so quick that there was not really any time for them to react. Not sure what would have happened in another 30 seconds or so if the guy would have actually made it into the house. That's the part that scares me. The timing was all perfect though I guess. Still gotta do a little something more to try and prevent it all in the future.

I have a CPI security system. It is monitored. I have two way voice response. If the alarm go's off a real person will come over a speaker within the house. They will verify that it is me with my own pass code or someone braking in my house. They will threaten the burglar and call the police. We have had it for 6 years and love it.
