I have a friend who has a Mossberg 500 12ga with a 20in barrel. It was bought this spring and is like new. It has Mossy oak camo. How do these shoot and about what would it be worth? Thanks

I have an older one, and I get pretty even patterns with a cheap Undertaker .660 (lead only, non-ported) tube and Win XX 3-2-6's and Win X 3-1 7/8-6's.  I haven't experimented much with other rounds and chokes with it, because it's my second backup gun.  I could probably get denser patterns if I choked her down more, but I would hunt with her any day as is, though.  You might want to contact SumToy and pick his brain.

Federal Flite Control 2oz #5s with the factory full choke worked well in mine. Very loud, by the way.

Indeed, that short barrel certainly does bark.   :D   I've been planning on trying some FCW's thru it (I even have a couple of boxes in my possession), but I haven't gotten around to it.

Thanks for the replys. It is a 500. How much would this gun be worth? Thanks

I assume you are considering buying the used one from your friend.

I have a 535 with 20" barrel & thumbhole stock that I bought new & on sale at Bass Pro Atlanta in 2010 for $375. They are more now. I would guess used for around $300 for the 500 if tactical or thumbhole stock. Maybe the same or a little less for normal stock.

Yeah...I'd say a $250 offer would be fair.

Thanks again, I am considering taking it in on a coondog trade.

Seems to me if the dog is a hunter you could use the money from coon pelts to buy a new one.
Jakes are like scotch. They are not worth a darn until they age.
