Being Dependant Upon God....07/01/12 Devotional

July 4th, 1776......a time in history that the souls of this new land called America, stood up against the tyrany of England and her King, and claimed independance from it's grasp... a time in which we as Americans celebrate with great pompus and pride, being independant from the overshadowing thumb of "The King".
Unlike the King of England during Colonial times, "The King of Kings"  we serve, as Christians,  is a benevolent, patient, caring ruler who always has His subject's best interests in mind.  He is not "out to get us," and does not take pleasure in seeing us fail.  He is not greedy.  In fact, He is just the opposite.  After all, He gave up his only begotten Son, so that those who believed in Him would not perish, but would have everlasting life.
But it is unreal to think that we could live our lives independant from Him, and seek the rewards of being faithful followers, as we must know that our mear existence is dependant upon Him. Even the things that make up our being, the air that we breathe, the food that we eat, and the water that we drink.  No man could ever provide, Psa 104:24-28...   .
24 O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
25 So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.
26 There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.
27 These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
28 That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.

Remember what Christ had said..."take no thought for the morrow, for the morrow will take thought for the things of itself." ... how could this be without the providence of God? Our worries are eluded through His promise of caring and our lives are nurtured by His wisdom and Grace. Even the creatures of the sea and air and those who walk upon the face of the Earth realize God's authority and humble their being the dependance, so why is it that MAN wants to be so Independant.....I believe we are fickle when it comes to following the rules....we tend to question authority, second guess commands given, it is after all our "nature" in the flesh.....we lack the quality of Obedience, to some degree, as dependants must be obedient to their master, and what shall we expect for obedience? Protection, Psalm 32:7...Thou art my hiding place; thou wilt preserve me from trouble; thou wilt compass me about with songs of deliverance.  Peace, Phillipians 4: 6-9 ... 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. and eternal Love, 1 John 4:16....And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
So let me emphasis on this one thing, let us grow more dependant upon God for His tender mercies, let us shed this thought of being more independant through living our lives our way and not His ways....I have this thought of independant living, imagine the elderly, in an independant living center or "nursing home", advertised as independant living, more or less locked away from society, in tiny rooms, often alone and tired of their meager existence......to me this would be my life without God's protection, providence and Love.....no peace, no hope....think about it....

Thanks Jack, this is something we should think about.

God bless,

Thanks, Jack.  May God cause us to recognize more and more how dependance we are upon Him.
